About

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Nu Beta Chapter, was chartered on Sunday, May 22nd, 1977 on the campus of American University in Washington, D.C. by fifteen intelligent Black men we refer to as Black Genesis. Black Genesis entered the realm of Alpha on a campus not much unlike our Jewels at Cornell University. All of these young men attended prestigious and predominantly White institutions, and realized the dire need for change to strengthen the community amongst their noticeably small minority groups. Since its inception, the Nu Beta Chapter has since spread to the campuses of The Catholic University of America, The Georgetown University, and The George Washington University.

To this end, the Nu Beta Chapter has enthusiastically committed itself to “think Alpha Phi Alpha, talk Alpha Phi Alpha, promote Alpha Phi Alpha and labor for the broad principles of idealism for which Alpha Phi Alpha was created, so that humanity shall look on us as a body worthwhile.”

The American University

A global outlook, practical idealism, a passion for public service: They’re part of American University today, and they were in the air in 1893, when AU was chartered by Congress. George Washington had dreamed of a “national university” in the nation’s capital. But it took John Fletcher Hurst to found a university that, in many ways, embodies that dream.

The Catholic University of America

The Catholic University of America (CUA) is a private university located in Washington, D.C. in the United States. It is a pontifical university of the Catholic Church in the United States and the only institution of higher education founded by the U.S. Catholic bishops. Established in 1887 as a graduate and research center following approval by Pope Leo XIII on Easter Sunday, the university began offering undergraduate education in 1904. The university's campus lies within the Brookland neighborhood, known as "Little Rome", which contains 60 Catholic institutions, including Trinity Washington University and the Dominican House of Studies.

The George Washington University

The George Washington University is a private, coeducational research university located in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington, D.C. with two other campuses including the Mount Vernon campus in the Foxhall neighborhood, as well as the Virginia Science & Technology campus in Loudoun County, Virginia. GW is the largest institution of higher education in the District of Columbia.
